Before Anesthesia
Pre-Anesthesia Instructions
Please read these instructions carefully. Dr. Burnham and his staff are interested in your welfare. By following these instructions, you will have a successful surgery and recovery course.
- Do not eat food or drink ANY fluids, including water for six hours before surgery.
- If you were given steroids, or told to take any other medications by Dr. Burnham, please take them as directed.
- It is important that you take any regular medicines (high blood pressure, antibiotics, etc.) or any pre-procedure prescription that we have provided. Drink only enough water to get the pills down the morning of surgery.
- Please bring someone with you for your surgery who can wait in the reception room to drive you home.
- Please wear SHORT SLEEVES WITH LOOSE-FITTING ARMS. Do not wear a one-piece garment. We need to monitor your vital signs and administer the anesthetic. This is why we need access to your arms and chest.
- Vigorously brush your teeth and clean your mouth before surgery to help prevent a dry socket.
- Remove all make-up and contact lenses before surgery.
- After surgery, you should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
