1. Stop smoking a day or two prior to surgery and DO NOT SMOKE FOR 5 DAYS AFTER SURGERY. IF YOU INSIST ON SMOKING, THE FOLLOWING MAY HAPPEN: (because the chemicals and gases in tobacco smoke contains ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, lead, nicotine, pesticides, radioactive polonium, and many other deadly gases).
2. Suggested food to have on hand at home the day of surgery should include anything soft and non-spicy. Some examples would include puddings, ice cream, soup and yogurt. Suggested drinks would include ginger-ale, 7-up, fruit juices, Gatorade, milk, or instant breakfast.
3. Plan to completely rest the day of the surgery, have nothing planned that day, and make no major decisions.
